If you love to be up on what’s happening around Philadelphia, I have a great website to use as a resource. Uwishunu.com is my go to website when planning fun things to fill up my calendar. The site has anything and everything one could possibly want to take advantage of or attend in the city. The categories include events, dining, drinks, nightlife, weekend, arts, music, shopping, sports, and video. You won’t miss a gallery opening, big sale, restaurant deal, or festival ever again. Plan fun dates with a special someone or organize an outing with the girls in a matter of minutes with the site. Most recently, I found a craft beer and cheese tasting event on St. Patrick’s Day that I purchased tickets to. I plan to give the tickets to my best friend for her birthday so that we can go together. Whatever it is, visit the site and I bet you’ll find some awesome events to have great memories at. Too Much Information

In our technology driven society we are constantly hearing about the ways the internet, social media, etc. is affecting our everyday lives. Whether this affects us positively or negatively, the way we communicate using technology is extremely impactful. I recently watched the movie Catfish and it open my eyes to the negative side of social media. The movie is a documentary focused around a young photographer living in New York City named Nev Schulman. The entire movie is said to be completely true. Nev begins to receive paintings of his own photography from a so called child prodigy named Abby. Abby’s mother then began to contact Nev, and so did her older sister and brother, all through Facebook. Nev even began a romantic relationship with the sister via phone, Gchat, and Facebook. Nev began to question the family and decided to take a trip to their hometown in Michigan. Once he arrived at the house he saw that the entire family was a fraud. Abby’s mother had created all of the paintings and created multiple fake Facebook pages using pictures from other people’s profiles. After watching this documentary I was slightly disturbed that something like this could happen with social media. After double checking my Facebook privacy settings I vowed to always be careful when connecting with others over the internet.

Purchase with a Purpose

This new spring collection at TOMs shoes is inspired by the artist, photographer, and creative activist Dan Eldon. Dan was one of the youngest Reuters photojournalists and his life was driven by a compassion for others and a need to help. At the age of 22 he was unfortunately killed by an angry mob in Somalia but his journals and his story continue to inspire.

Support his mission and the efforts of TOMs by purchasing a pair of shoes in the one-for-one movement or by buying apparel from the Dan Eldon shop. His mother and little sister established the shop showcasing his artwork created in his journals while traveling. All proceeds from sold merchandise go to the Dan Eldon Foundation/Creative Visions, serving to inspire everyday people to make change. More importantly, visit the Dan Eldon site to learn how you too can become a creative activist and the importance of purchasing with a purpose.
