California Native, and star of
Fox’s hit sitcom New Girl, Zooey
Deschanel is dressing her way into the fashion industry. The actress, musician, and singer/songwriter
is partnering with Tommy Hilfiger to create a capsule collection. Deschanel is infusing her signature
style into the collection that consists of 16, 60’s inspired short
dresses. The dresses range in
price from $98 to $199 and will be debuted in stores on April 14.
According to Women’s Wear Daily,
Descahnel met Hilfiger at a party where the two bonded over a casual
conversation regarding a shared love of vintage style. That shared love sparked an idea for
the capsule collection, “To Tommy, From Zooey” which will be coming to stores
this spring. The line of dresses will be sold in 200 Macy’s stores, online at
Tommy.com, and in select Tommy Hilfiger stores.
Although Deschanel is commonly regarded,
as a style icon, for her quirky and vintage inspired fashion sense, this is her
first time designing for a mass market. According to Deschanel, “The dresses are not too fussy
or frilly, but they do have a feminine, mod-inspired, Americana vibe that's
quite appealing.” The capsule
collection maintains a rather patriotic color story, as the dresses are predominantly
red, white, and blue. Some of the
looks include a polka a dot shirtdress and a red pleated ensemble with tennis
skirt bottom.
Deschanel herself will be staring in the ad campaigns as well as designing
jewelry and accessories that will accompany the line. She
describes her style and her partnership with Hilfiger, “I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always
looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own
wardrobe,” she said. “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations - old-school
music, classic films and old Hollywood icons.” Such inspirations were the foundation for the ‘To Tommy,
From Zooey’ collection.
