The Coco Chanel of Pageantry

This past weekend I had an experience of a lifetime!  I competed in the Miss Doddridge County Scholarship Program and won the title of Miss Doddridge County!  This is a local pageant that leads to Miss West Virginia and then ultimately Miss America!

Throughout the weekend, fabulous women and glamorous clothing surrounded me.  For the Miss America Organization there are 5 areas of competition: interview, swimsuit, talent, eveningwear, and on-stage question.  Evening gown is an iconic stage of Miss America, whether you follow pageantry or not, most people see Miss America in her evening gown during her crowning moment.

Just as fashion has icons such as Coco Chanel, pageantry has designers who leave lasting impressions.  In my book, and many others, Sherri Hill is considered to be the Chanel of pageantry.  Sherri Hill is a dress designer who is known for her exclusive fashion forward dresses that accentuate women’s bodies.  Many pageant girls dream to have the op
portunity to have a custom gown fit personally by Hill.

Hill became famous after designing dresses for multiple Miss America, Miss USA, and Miss Universe contestants.  Though many people are not familiar with Sherri Hill, she is growing her brand outside of the pageant world by making her collections available in over 30 countries.  Hill entered New York Fashion Week in 2011 with Kendall Jenner as a model in her first runway show.  Hill’s beautiful gowns have also appeared on the red carpet, worn by celebrities, such as with Selena Gomez, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert.

In high school I wore my first Sherri Hill dress, and today I dream of the day when I can work with the woman who has dressed many of my idols.  If you are not familiar with Sherri Hill, I highly recommend you check her out! http://www.sherrihill.com
