And the Award for Best Dressed Goes to...

It’s that time of year again! Last night kicked off the start of this year’s award season with the Golden Globes. Stars glittered the red carpet in shades of beige, red, and of course, who can go wrong with black? Major trends of the carpet included color blocking, side parted hair bobs, and statement jewelry.

12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o stole the show in a breathtakingly stunning cape gown from Ralph Lauren, making a bold statement for one of her first major award carpet appearances.

Sandra Bullock channeled her inner hot air balloon in her “love it or hate it” color-blocked gown by Prabal Gurung. Other stars taking part in the color-blocking trend included Taylor Swift, Amy Adams, and Aubrey Plaza. Swift looked elegant as always in a floor length Carolina Herrera gown, complete with a gathered train. Valentino was the choice of Amy Adams for the night with her daringly deep V-neck gown- a dramatic change from last year’s flawless Marchesa piece. Aubrey was one of the few stars donning purple for the night in an asymmetrical gown from Oscar de la Renta.

Also spotted in a two toned ensemble was Julia Roberts, who paired a classy black Dolce & Gabbana gown with a white button down shirt. Although an interesting choice, Roberts may have looked much more elegant ditching the button down and her matronly look altogether. Along with Roberts, Emma Watson made a questionable wardrobe choice, appearing utterly conservative from the front. The capped sleeves and high neckline didn’t do much for the star, until she turned around to reveal a bold, backless dress-pants combo from Dior.

Amongst all of the excitement of the night, baby bumps seemed to be the talk of the carpet. Rush actress Olivia Wilde sparkled in a curve hugging, emerald green Gucci gown. Taking an opposite approach was Drew Barrymore, who opted for a loose fitting, floral dress by Monique Lhuillier. Last in the group was Kerry Washington, who proudly announced that her baby bump was her favorite accessory of the night. Washington kept it simple and elegant in a lovely off-white Balenciaga gown.

Stars graced the Golden Globe’s red carpet in a variety of gorgeous, and some maybe not-so-gorgeous looks. What will be in store for next week’s SAG Awards?
