TV Stars Outdazzle the Big Winners at the Golden Globes

Kerry Washington at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards |
The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards may be remembered
in history as the night that Leonardo DiCaprio and Amy Poehler finally won after
years of unrewarding nominations – and the night that Jennifer Lawrence won yet
again – but it was also the night that the less publicized TV stars really won
on the red carpet. Black, white, and silver gowns seemed to be the biggest
trends of the night, giving the red carpet a notably monochromatic theme. Most charming
was 2013’s Queen of Primetime, pregnant Scandal
star, Kerry Washington. The glowing newlywed and mother-to-be wore a custom
off-white Balenciaga gown, complete with Leighton Jewels and a vintage diamond
encrusted Movado watch, which the star teased her Instagram followers with
before making her grand entrance onto the red carpet. Beautifully cohesive with
her look, Washington kept her hair and makeup simple and elegant as well, with
loose waves and a subtle smoky eye.

Sarah Paulson in Marchesa |
Also striking in fair-toned gowns were American Horror Story: Coven stars, Taissa
Farmiga and Steve McQueen’s definition of “The Bette Davis of America”, Sarah
Paulson. Although the show mistakenly missed out on all of its nominations,
Paulson graced the stage with her castmates of the film 12 Years a Slave to accept the most coveted Best Motion Picture –
Drama award, during which director, Steve McQueen gave Paulson her
extraordinarily memorable new title. Paulson wore a pale silver, lace Marchesa
gown complete with a Marchesa clutch, Christian Louboutin sandals, and Irene
Neuwirth jewelry. Farmiga looked absolutely angelic in an Elie Saab dress and
Stuart Weitzman sandals. Similar to Kerry Washington, Farmiga favored the
natural beauty trends of subtle makeup and loose waves.
Despite everyone’s best efforts every year, an
award show just wouldn’t be an award show without someone experiencing some
sort of a wardrobe malfunction. This year the misfortune went to Kate Beckinsale
who ended up being sewn into her silver Zuhair Murad gown in a limousine on her
way to the show after the gown’s zipper snapped. However, the beautiful actress
still managed to wow on the red carpet as one of the best dressed of the night.
