Miss Universe 2014: Best National Costume

The winner of the 2014 Miss Universe pageant is the Colombian beauty, Paulina Vega. She is the second Miss Colombia to be crowned Miss Universe since 1958.

As a tradition I watch the Miss Universe pageant every year. One of my favorite parts of the Miss Universe pageant is seeing the national costumes of the 88 representing countries. The world was given the chance to vote on twitter between: Miss Indonesia, Miss Canada, Miss Germany, Miss India and Miss Argentina for Best National Costume.

This year Miss Indonesia: Elvira Devinamira was awarded Best National Costume at the 2014 Miss Universe pageant for her Buddhist temple inspired costume.

Miss Canada’s costume is also a buzzworthy topic worth mentioning. Her hockey inspired costume received mixed responses. Her dress included a scoreboard, hockey sticks arranged to resemble wings, a wig with a Stanley Cup tiara, goalposts and a net. The Toronto-based designer Alex Kavanagh who has worked on several horror films said "some people really, really hate it and others really, really love it- but everyone has noticed it, that's for sure."
